Bodegas Emilio Moro, one of the most nationally and internationally renowned wineries in Ribera del Duero, revamps the image of three of its most iconic wines, the Familia Malleolus, with labels that pay tribute to their origins.
The path of the Valladolid winery began more than 100 years ago and, since then, the world of wine and Malleolus have evolved, becoming a leader in the company and in the sector.
Together with this change of image, they are presenting the new vintages of the three Malleolus wines, which maintain the essence that has made them three leading wines in our country. The Moro family pursues the perfection of its products and these new vintages of its three wines, Malleolus, Malleolus de Valderramiro and Malleolus de Sanchomartín, are proof of its efforts to achieve this, using grapes of unbeatable quality for their production.
‘Our goal is to seek the highest quality in our wines, and with the Malleolus family, we have achieved it,’ said the president of Bodegas Emilio Moro, Javier Moro.
Malleolus 2020 is the new vintage of this historic red wine. An elegant wine, with a great personality and a perfect balance between maturity and freshness. With its characteristic cherry red colour, Malleolus is back once again this year to make us fall in love with its high quality and its great aromatic expression marked by the aromas of black fruits. This wine, aged in French oak barrels, leaves a voluminous and mature taste on the palate that lingers long after drinking.
‘Malleolus has the character of the grape and it develops immediately,’ says technical director Álvaro Maestro, who has been with the winery for 18 years.
Malleolus de Valderramiro 2019 is the great Tinto Fino that returns with all its power, structure and great intensity. With a growth cycle characterised by low rainfall and high temperatures, this wine is made from a balanced grape of extraordinary quality. The resulting wine has a powerful but balanced flavour that leaves a delicious finish on the palate with its marked fruity character. With its distinctive garnet red colour, Malleolus de Valderramiro 2019 is the perfect accompaniment to a good roast.
According to Álvaro Maestro, this wine is ‘expressive, elegant and shows seriousness in the fruit’, and he is not afraid to confess that it is his favourite. ‘It’s a wine that goes in caressing and comes out kissing’, he commented.
Malleolus de Sanchomartín 2019 is the tempranillo wine born in Pago de Sanchomartín, located in Pesquera de Duero. A powerful, elegant and persistent wine that once again offers a balanced flavour with some fruity notes. With a pleasant passage and a long, lingering finish, this wine is the perfect accompaniment to any great celebration or special occasion.
For Maestro, it is the most elegant wine, and although at the moment it is already an excellent wine, ‘the potential in the bottle is spectacular’, he explained.

New vintages, new image
Malleolus have been, are and will be a symbol of elegance, delicacy and distinction. And to be in harmony with this new launch, they are sporting new labels. In keeping with their identity, they continue to bear their characteristic medallions, which have undergone changes in the colour of their borders to match the capsules with the colour of each Malleolus. A perfect blend of history and evolution.
For Bodegas Emilio Moreno, tradition is an irreplaceable value and, as a tribute to its history and its beginnings, these new labels include the signature of Emilio Moro, just as the winery’s first labels did in its day. In addition, the medallion is restored to some extent to its original position.
Moreover, each Malleolus comes from a different type of soil, which gives them very different characteristics and peculiarities, a very important detail that is also highlighted on this new label.
