2018 vintage
2018 was characterised by a very cold winter, with low temperatures resulting in a delay in bud break of about one week compared to the average of previous years. The spring was characterised by heavy rainfall. Flowering took place in the last week of May. The summer, cool at first, continued with higher temperatures in June and July, but without reaching excessive peaks. The large temperature fluctuations between day and night in the days leading up to the harvest favoured a slow and steady ripening of the grapes.
Production Brunello di Montalcino Giovanni Neri – Casanova di Neri
Manual selection of the grapes before and after destemming. Fermentation follows, with 20% whole bunches, no added yeasts and maceration accompanied by frequent punching down. All this is carried out in temperature-controlled wooden vats for 29 days.
Tasting Notes – Giovanni Neri Brunello di Montalcino
First vintage of this vineyard in Casanova di Neri: located in the southeast, one of the most important and renowned areas of Montalcino. It was acquired in 2017 for its magnificent display and its old vines of almost 50 years. The bouquet is a symphony of young red fruits: blueberries, cherries and plums, and soon after, blood orange appears in the glass. On the palate, the tannins are very fine, creamy and expansive. The acidity of the 2018 vintage combines perfectly with the generosity and structure of this wine. The finish is deep and persistent, a sign of a great future.
