Malleolus De Valderramiro And Malleolus De Sanchomartín Triumph in Wine Spectator

Wine Spectator magazine rates Malleolus de Valderramiro with 95 points and Malleolus de Sanchomartín with 96 points.

  • Bodegas Emilio Moro’s most emblematic red wines achieve ratings above 95 points in Wine Spectator
  • The magazine, with more than 30 years of experience, is one of the most prestigious and influential publications in the world of wine.

Bodegas Emilio Moro, one of the leading wines in Ribera del Duero, continues to reap success. Amongst its wide range of wines, the Malleolus trio stands out for its ability to penetrate deeply and win over the most demanding palates in the world of wine, and, on this occasion, two of the winery’s most premium wines are the stars of this celebration.

The American publication Wine Spectator, one of the most important international references in wine, has awarded very high ratings to Malleolus de Valderramiro and Malleolus de Sanchomartín. To be precise, the wines from the Moro family’s winery received a 95-point rating for Malleolus de Valderramiro and 96 points for Malleolus de Sanchomartín.

In the words of the winery’s technical director, Álvaro Maestro, ‘the great thing about these wines is that they are totally modern wines that, without losing the essence of the historic vineyards from which they come, know how to extract the best of the land and put it in the glass’.

Malleolus de Valderramiro comes from one of the oldest vineyards of Bodegas Emilio Moro, planted in 1924. Cherry red in colour with garnet tinges, it has an intense and elegant bouquet. One perceives aromas of ripe fruit. Sweet and gentle tannins, with a long and very persistent finish.

Malleolus de Sanchomartín is the purest reflection of the terroir. Aged in French oak barrels, it is remarkable for the richness of nuances it reveals when tasted. Aromatically it is a wine with varietal character, but with the personality of the limestone soils, it is subtle and suggestive. The palate is full-bodied and balanced with intense sensations similar to those perceived on the bouquet.

‘These are two wines that have no limits, either in terms of quality or international prestige’, says the president of Bodegas Emilio Moro, Javier Moro, whose experience of more than 30 years as commercial director of the winery has shown him the growth experienced by these wines outside Spain. ‘Valderramiro and Sanchomartín are an example of our commitment to quality, and their development has contributed significantly to the expansion of the Spanish brand internationally’.

Something with which Maestro agrees, for whom the greatness of these wines is that ‘despite coming from very close areas, thanks to the soils, the altitudes, the way the vines develop and the family’s way of understanding wine, they are capable of creating two very different profiles with different perceptible nuances in tasting, both of which are at a very high level of quality’.

These ratings further enhance the reputation that these wines had already achieved on their own merits. Two red wines, made from Tempranillo grapes, which are part of the top range of the Ribera del Duero winery and whose quality increases year after year thanks to the work and effort of Bodegas Emilio Moro.
