- Bodegas Emilio Moro joins past and future in the new image of its Godello wines, resulting in a portrait of the history of El Bierzo.
Bodegas Emilio Moro is located in the heart of the Ribera de Duero, in the prime area of the ‘Golden Mile’. A family winery with more than 100 years of history that, with dedication and devotion to the world of wine, focuses its efforts on creating wines that breathe its essence while remaining faithful to its origins and relying on innovation. A maxim that they fulfil year after year thanks to their bond with the land, their knowledge acquired through experience and their deep respect for everything related to the sector.
Bodegas Emilio Moro is currently the result of the passion of a family that is devoted body and soul to the world of wine. The land has always been and continues to be their greatest asset; they are born of it and owe their history to it. For this reason, each of its wines transmits the soul of the terroir and the purest essence of its two wineries located in the denominations of origin, D.O. Ribera del Duero and D.O. Bierzo.
All art has its origins and so do Emilio Moro’s wines.
Bodegas Emilio Moro wants to pay tribute to its origins by sharing its history. To do this, they have managed to stop time and unite past and future in perfect coherence and harmony, resulting in the new image of their three Godellos through honesty and via their origins.
With this new image, Polvorete, El Zarzal and La Revelía represent the people, the terrain and the identity of the valley of El Bierzo. The perfect union between the tradition inherited from their ancestors and the special character of the terroir, worked with the utmost respect for a unique variety, the Godello.
Through a journey to the essence of El Bierzo, the Bodegas Emilio Moro team has discovered some of the traces that the inhabitants of the area left thousands of years ago in the form of cave paintings, which they now collect as a demonstration of their wonderful time in this special land.
This testimony, found on the walls of the Cueva del Moro, located a few kilometres from their winery in El Bierzo, has allowed them to travel to the origins of this land and learn about the singularity of El Bierzo as represented in its landscape, its vineyards and, of course, its wines.
Bodegas Emilio Moro has been inspired by this legacy and has extracted some of the figures that our ancestors represented and that, incredibly, have survived the passage of time until today. Thousands of years later, the same land continues to bear fruit, and the connection with those ancestral generations remains. A connection that the winery continues to maintain with the land, the origin of its inspiration, giving rise to new vintages full of personality. The magic of delving into the history and the art of falling in love with the wines of Bodegas Emilio Moro.
New image, new vintage
Along with this change of image, Bodegas Emilio Moro presents the new vintages of its Godello wines which, while maintaining their essence, have managed to become three leading wines in our country. The Moro family strives for perfection in their wines, and these new vintages are proof of their efforts to achieve it, using grapes of unsurpassable quality for their production.
Polvorete 2022 is the youngest, most rebellious and fun version of the Godello wines produced by the Valladolid winery in El Bierzo. With aromas of white fruits and light citrus notes characteristic of the variety, Polvorete is a wine of great balance between acidity and body with an easy finish and a pleasant and refreshing aftertaste.
El Zarzal 2022, a Godello that, when you taste it, captivates you. Fresh, with a balanced acidity, it is a wine that respects the identity of the grape variety without renouncing freshness. In terms of aromas, we can appreciate the nuances of ripe white fruit and stone fruit, which harmonise with the minerality and honeyed aromas on the bouquet thanks to its ageing on lees in French oak foudres.
La Revelía 2021 is the most subtle, suggestive and complex wine of the El Bierzo winery’s range of whites, representing the purest expression of the Godello variety, aged on its lees in barrels to provide body and richness. A wine that gains in intensity and complexity in the glass, developing notes of white flowers and dried fruits, where minerality appears in the background, bringing singularity and personality to the whole.
El Bierzo, a new opportunity to tell its story
El Bierzo, that vast region of León that hides a natural and historical heritage as particular as its own, has allowed Bodegas Emilio Moro to delve into its origins in order to see with perspective where they want to be.
In 2013, after a long career in Ribera del Duero, the Valladolid winery embarked on an exciting journey towards a variety, Godello, and an area, El Bierzo. Three years later, in 2016, they were already producing two wines, El Zarzal and La Revelía, and in 2019, Polvorete was born.
Ten years later, El Bierzo has managed to position itself on the national map as one of the leading areas for the production of white wines from the Godello grape variety. Today, the Bodegas Emilio Moro project has its own winery, three wines on the market and 60 hectares of vineyards.
