El Bierzo

El Bierzo

History

In 2013, Bodegas Emilio Moro embarked on a journey to the unique area El Bierzo to produce our white wines which, years later, represent the maximum expressiveness of a variety that is Godello.

It was in 1989 when the Bierzo Designation of Origin was born, and it was not until 2016 that we decided to embark on this adventure. Our family enjoyed the special qualities of the area for years, which we ended up falling in love with in order to start making our white wines.

El Bierzo

Location

In 2023 we opened the doors of our winery in El Bierzo, located in Ponferrada. In the heart of the Sil Valley, our vineyards are located in the eastern area with the highest altitude and coldest areas, both on the plains and at different heights on the slopes, which gives unique characteristics to each of our Godellos.

El Bierzo

Hillsides

Our vineyards in El Bierzo are located in very varied areas, which gives them very different characteristics, making each of our wines unique and special.

  • Flat area: this is the most fertile area, with deep and fresh soils.
  • Low slope: area with high fertility and less depth.
  • Medium slope: this is an area with medium fertility and a perfect balance.
  • High slope: this is the most limiting area.

El Bierzo

Variety

The Godello grape is ideal for the production of fresh and aromatic white wines. A variety whose aromatic profile is complex and diverse but which is also characterised by maintaining a perfect balance between acidity and freshness, which has allowed us to make great wines.

The Mencía variety produces excellent red wines, with primary aromas and smooth, velvety wines of great quality. When young, they are fruity and very tasty. When aged, the wines obtain a good bouquet and a great personality. In the mouth, they stand out for their balance and smoothness together with a marked character.
