Pesquera de Duero, 4th April 2022. Bodegas Emilio Moro’s board meeting held last Friday, 1 April, named Javier Moro Espinosa president of the company, taking over from José Moro Espinosa. He assumes the challenge of strengthening our expansion in America and Asia and increasing sales on the international market by 25% by the end of the year.
Javier Moro Espinosa is one of the third generation of the Moro family and has been sales director at the winery since 1989. He has been one of the main architects of our brand’s growth and expansion, present in more than 70 countries on every continent. “I am enormously proud to lead this company,” stated the new president, who has set the objective of “continuing the heritage of quality which distinguishes Emilio Moro while taking the current challenges of social inclusion and environmental sustainability into account at all times”.
Committed to professionalisation and laying emphasis on human capital and modern management, our company seeks to increase its presence abroad with this new leadership and the incorporation of professionals who will help us face the challenges of this prospect. We forecast a doubling of our staff devoted to exportation over the coming year, to be able to take our wines to consumers all over the world.
We hope to reach every state of the USA, after reaching 45 out of 50 last year as we arrived in Hawaii, New Mexico and Nebraska. We also intend to extend our presence in the rest of America and in Asia.
This expansion into new markets would not be possible without our commitment to a quality product, the fruits of our labours and investment in Castile and León. To strengthen our presence in El Bierzo, an adventure we embarked upon in 2016, we have invested 5 million euros to build our new facilities in Ponferrada, which we intend to open in spring 2023, to boost our wines from DO Bierzo. In 2020 we added Polvorete, our latest creation, to our first Godellos, El Zarzal and La Revelía, and hope to incorporate our first red wine before too long, using the Mencía grape variety.
The story of Bodegas Emilio Moro goes back four generations. The founder, Emilio Moro, was born in 1891 in Pesquera de Duero, a town in the province of Valladolid which also saw the birth of his son Emilio in 1932. Hard work at the vines built their passion, vintage after vintage on the banks of the River Douro. Emilio Moro instilled all his love for wine in his son, who, in turn, passed it on to the third and fourth generations of the family, consolidating a company which has become a leader of Spanish winemaking.
